Check out http://www.emutualfund.org for information about managing your retirement accounts and choosing the best funds for you. The site also discusses ETF’s which could come in handy if you are trying to figure out the best way to balance your portfolio. Many of us just choose a few funds based on risk and that is the end of it. We may have a glance at our accounts every year or two, but don’t really make too many changes.
This is fine for some, but not the best way to ensure a good return on your investment. The best thing is to do some research and determine which are the best funds and often more importantly the best fund managers. Once you find someone you like you can invest a portion of your portfolio into the fund or funds that person manages. Just be sure to keep an eye on risk when your portfolio starts to mature.
